Standards maintained - Pupils are happy, safe and developing independence Ofsted

Riverside Bridge School was last inspected by Ofsted on 25th and 26th March 2025.
Inspectors confirmed that he school has successfully maintained the high standards identified at the previous inspection, where the school was judged to be 'Good'.
The report highlights the school's strengths in communication, independence, personal development and preparation for adulthood, recognising the positive experiences and outcomes achieved by pupils across the school.

“Pupils at Riverside Bridge School are happy and kept safe. They grow in confidence and are proud of their achievements, sharing these with parents and carers through reward ceremonies and events such as the Christmas concert.
Teachers and co-educators help pupils to be independent and enthusiastic learners. Starting from early years, children earn certificates and accreditation for what they achieve in independence, life skills, communication and numeracy.
Pupils communicate in a range of ways that suit them best… In this way, pupils learn how to express their choices and feelings with increasing confidence.
Pupils actively participate in a range of activities that enrich their lives and develop their independence, interests and talents.”
Key strengths highlighted by Ofsted
Inspectors recognised a number of strengths across the school, including:
- a well-structured and ambitious curriculum tailored to pupils’ needs;
- a strong focus on communication, independence and life skills;
- pupils who are happy, safe and confident;
- effective use of different curriculum pathways to meet individual needs;
- high-quality support from specialist professionals such as therapists;
- a strong commitment to personal development and preparation for adulthood;
- positive behaviour and well-supported emotional regulation.
Continuous improvement
The inspection also identified an area for further development:
- ensuring all pupils are consistently given opportunities to develop independence in their learning.
Leaders have already incorporated this recommendation into the school's ongoing improvement planning. Through curriculum development, staff training and a continued focus on Preparation for Adulthood, pupils are increasingly being supported to take ownership of their learning and develop greater independence.
