At Riverside Bridge School, we use additional government funding to ensure that all pupils can access the opportunities, support and experiences they need to thrive, regardless of background, circumstance or additional barriers to learning.
This includes Pupil Premium funding and the PE and Sport Premium. Both funding streams are used strategically to remove barriers, promote inclusion and improve outcomes for pupils across the school.
Supporting opportunity and achievement
Many of our pupils face multiple and overlapping challenges linked to communication, learning, independence, physical development and preparation for adulthood.
For this reason, additional funding is not viewed solely through the lens of academic attainment. Instead, it is used to strengthen the wider experiences, environments and support systems that enable pupils to develop confidence, communication, independence and life skills.
Funding helps ensure that pupils can access meaningful learning experiences, participate fully in school life and develop the skills they need for the future.
Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium is government funding provided to support pupils who may face additional challenges due to disadvantage.
Currently, 36.3% of pupils at Riverside Bridge School are eligible for Pupil Premium funding, making it an important part of our wider provision.
We use this funding to:
- strengthen communication and independence
- enhance preparation for adulthood opportunities
- support enrichment and community experiences
- reduce barriers to participation and engagement
- improve access to learning opportunities
- strengthen partnership working with families
Our aim is to ensure that pupils develop the skills, experiences and confidence they need to participate successfully in school life and beyond.
PE and Sport Premium
The PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding designed to improve physical education, sport and physical activity within schools.
For the 2025–2026 academic year, Riverside Bridge School received £16,891.
Physical development is a key part of our curriculum and plays an important role in supporting health, wellbeing, communication, confidence and emotional regulation.
The funding is used to:
- improve the quality of physical education
- develop staff confidence and expertise
- enhance access to swimming and physical activity
- provide inclusive and adaptive opportunities for participation
- improve resources and specialist equipment
- support pupils with sensory and physical needs
This helps ensure that every pupil can experience success, enjoyment and personal achievement through physical activity.
The Impact for our pupils
Through the effective use of additional funding, pupils benefit from increased opportunities to learn, participate and develop independence.
Pupils are supported to:
- communicate with greater confidence
- develop independence and life skills
- engage in enrichment and community experiences
- improve physical confidence and coordination
- develop resilience and wellbeing
- prepare successfully for adulthood
Success is measured not only through qualifications or academic outcomes, but through the progress pupils make towards becoming confident, communicative and as independent as possible.
